Not S30V in any way.
So I thought what a great deal, S30V for $50. Well it is way too soft for S30V and there are videos on YouTube where they tested the steel. LuvThemKnives channel tested two at two different times and both came with less than 0.10% Vanadium, S30v has 4.00% and 2.00% molybdenum. That was last year and I bought mine in August. I thought it was soft when I sharpened it. It never tested… read more harder than HRC 57. At least they could have used 440C and heat treat it too hard or even 6Cr13 can hit 62 hard.
Great knife and S30V for 50 bucks too.
It came really sharp and I merely had to strop it with some diamond compound to get it really really sharp. Usually, I have to run a new inexpensive knife over my sharpening stones a bit, but not this one. I wouldn't say the blade was centered, but it wasn't touching the side either, the liner lock is a bit too strong and pushes it off-center. Plus the lock has some sharp serrations…

on it I had to smooth off a little before it ate my thumb up. The knife is heavy, but not as much as a Buck 110 which in S30V costs more than double the Rancor. The detent is plenty strong and the bearings work well and are not overly loose so it doesn't snap open too hard. Snapping a folder is a good way to loosen up the pivot and other screws even on an expensive folder. I checked all my fasteners and they were all tight btw. The clip is very nice, fits into the inner liner, and is ambidextrous, it is long enough to clip to your belt if you're careful. It has a lanyard hole in what I thought was a glass breaker, but it's plastic, so heads up. The reason for 4 stars and not 5 is the sharp liner lock and the markings on the blade where the model number is lasered on are blurred so bad I couldn't make some of the letters out. Can't read the S30V at all, hard to brag about my $50 CPM S30V folder when no one can read it. lol
Heavy duty....but actually heavy.
This knife is a great value & worth the money. Great steel for an even better price. USA made & the quality seems good to go. Seems very sturdy & is comfortable in the hand. Not the slimmest handle width & this thing feels heavier than the specs state. If you like some heft in your knife then this sucker will give you what you need. Blade was centered, lock up is tight & flipping…

action is very smooth. My only complaint is there was some kind of blue/black staining on one of the gray stainless handles. Kind of sucks in case I wanted to gift it or something. I didn't notice initially & probably should've returned/exchanged it.
