An updated Raven 2 has made its way here and the results of the second generation of this pocket-size EDC is nothing short of stellar. Updates to the original MODel include a full-flat ground, premium Carpenter CTS-BD1 steel blade with a 0.150" thick for added strength. The handle maintains the skeletonized stainless steel liners and LinerLock tab with fine textured black G-10 putting your hand in control of the blade. An open-build on the handle makes it easy to keep your knife clean and the reversible tip-up carry clip makes it easy to keep your Byrd Crow in tow all the time.

This Byrd model is great bang for the buck. A budget priced piece with every option but a deep carry clip, back grip, front grip, 4-way clip, great edge, solid, and awesome handle texture.

Hands down better budget Spyderco option than the Tenacious. Better steel and I feel the lockup is tighter.
Fit and finish on my knife is excellent. Deployment could be smoother but for the price I feel like it's a great value.

Fit and finish about there with my other Spyderco knives, you can't really go wrong with BD1 steel, as for the loosening pivot, I found that if you press the side of the blade against a table you can lock the free spinning pivot in place to tighten it.

EDIT: Revised in light of current circumstances. When I purchased this it was $35 now it's $60 I can't recommend this knife at that price.

still do all the Spyder hole tricks, lock up was solid, blade was good and pretty out the box.
Cons: Mine had an unimpressive detent not bad enough to worry me in the pocket or inhibit me from flicking the knife open with the hole, but weak enough that I can flick it open with no use of the thumb hole and just wrist 100% consistently which for me is a small negative. Fit and finish was not on point for me the thumb hole was sharp managed to make myself bleed under my thumbnail once before I just took a dremel to it to fix that. Also the lock bar was badly designed it stuck out too far after the end of the scales so it poked my hand uncomfortably and I found the jimping and 90 degree angle on it to be unnecessary and rough so that got a visit from the sanding wheel as well. Last issue was a squeaking noise that I believe was off the detent out of the box this went away with time and playing with the action as well as oil but it was definitely annoying until it did.
Having done the things I did I think it's a 4 or a 4.5 knife and recommend it but out of the box it's not perfect at least for me.

Just received my Byrd Raven 2 today and have to say the knife is very impressive out of the box. I had heard there were issues with the fit and finish but the knife I received appears to be every bit as good as my other Spyderco knives. The edge is hair popping sharp and I'm looking forward to using the CTS BD1 blade. This is my first Byrd knife but definitely not the last. I carry this knife in uniform(Army) Good steel for the money. Mine is pretty smooth, but I am thinking about ordering phosphor bronze washers to upgrade this knife.

This is my third Byrd knife. The first was a Cara with the FRN scales that IMO are too flimsy, so I gave it to a friend. The second was a Crossbill which like the Raven 2 is an incredible knife for the money. Listen folks, for less than $50 bucks you can not go wrong with this knife. It just feels beefy. With a 0.15" blade thickness, you feel like it can handle anything. However, that blade thickness does get in the way of some cutting and makes the knife quite heavy. Some trade-offs there.

area where the clip touches the G-10 just to keep it from destroying my pants because the clip is a bit tight and the G-10 is a bit rough.
One major problem though, after 7 months of carry and use, the blade has become so off-center that it is hitting the liner on one side. The knife does have an adjustable pivot, but the other side just seems to spin freely so I can't actually tighten it (or unscrew it for that matter). It's served its time well, and I loved it for the past 7 months, but there really isn't much I can do now but retire it.
