The price is a bargain for what you get with this knife. Let's go through it all.

Pros:
20cv blade
Nicely textured G10
Stainless deep carry clip
Flow through construction
Drop shut action
Fast deployment
Tight lock-up
Very comfortable in the hand
Under 4 oz

Cons:
No gimping
No scalloping near thumb stud
The liner lock is easy to read more disengage
Steel liners make it heavier than it could be and make the knife look "cheap".

I think this knife could sell for twice the price if they fixed these small issues. Overall I'm impressed with the price of this knife.

Made a Great Knife Better

I have a Begleiter and a mini in 154cm and have really enjoyed using them and had to jump on this version. The opening action is nice and snappy, though closing requires a little push or shake. The blade seems to hold a good edge. I've been processing cardboard for a couple of weeks with it and it's still very sharp. So far it seems like the heat treatment was done well. Centering read more was good, but action was a little stiff out of the box and pivot adjustment had more of an effect on centering than action. After a couple of weeks of use, the action loosened up - still not drop shut, but perfectly acceptable. This has a bronze washer/teflon/bronze washer sandwich for pivot bushings like the standard Vanguard Begleiter. Nice fit and finish and good chamfering. The pocket clip is quite stiff and it's quality steel, so I haven't been able to open it up by bending and don't want to break it. That's really the only negative thing I have to say about this knife.

Excellent knife and steel

I have had my eyes on the begleiter for some time due to great reviews and the budget price for a great looking knife. As soon as blade hq had this exclusive show up, and with m390 as the steel, I could wait no longer. I am so glad that I ordered it. This one lives up to the hype and then some. The action and detent is perfect for this knifes size and materials. Fit and finish is read more done perfectly. I love m390 and hope that the heat treat has been done well but I’ll know more after a few sharpenings. At 99$, a knife this smooth and refined, with m390, is a true bargain. Buy it, you won’t be disappointed.

I think I found the Perfect Knife

I'm old. I just want a knife handy on job sites for cardboard, packing straps, insulation, tape, and opening documents. I don't carry a knife for self defense. When I'm in the office, the knife is either in my tool bag or maybe on my desk with my wallet, phone and car keys.

So I want a knife that isn't too big, but isn't a little dainty novelty. I wanted one handed operation. read more I wanted something that would feel good in my hand and pocket.

This is a nice size and feels great in my pocket. I took off the "carry clip." I don't like carry clips. I don't need extra stuff in my pocket, hand or in the way.

This Begleiter is a perfect fit for my hand. And the shape is excellent for my pocket. I have a PM3 and this knife is just a bit (like 1/2 inch) longer, but without that giant "spider bump" the PM3 has, this knife feels smaller.

The M390 will hold an edge for a good long time. Oh, and the factory edge on this knife is crazy sharp. I can shave hairs on my arm WITHOUT touching the skin.

The knife has a good detent to bias the blade closed. I have no fear this will snag and open in my pocket. But, I can still operate this easily with one hand. I can operate the knife with either my left or right hand. The liner lock favors righties, but that's common.

I generally like clip point blades. And while I own knifes like the PM2 and PM3, I really prefer the look of an old school blade. This drop point looks good. It's not a clip point, but it has a classic look and the tip is thin enough to pierce material while the back of the blade is thick enough that the cut (slice) won't damage the blade. The stone-wash on this blade is just icing on an already brilliant cake.

For $99 this is the perfect knife for me! I may have to order another three or four so that I have these available over the coming years and in different tool boxes, roller chests, bags and desks.
