My two cents

JOHN M.

The hype on these knives is justified in my opinion. To start, the construction and materials are all excellent on this knife. They combine with the smooth functional appearance to give that aah moment when you deploy the blade.very satisfying. Blade deployment and retraction are smooth and crispplenty of power. The right amount of resistance on the switchit wont go off in your read more pocket. I have large hands and found the Utx 85 handle just a bit short and narrow.soon to be remedied by the combat troodon on order. Now, if that is too large I might just have to step back to an ultratech. This Utx is a drop point and the black and silver on the blade look phenomenal with the metallic red handle. The design is just well thought out and perfectly executed. Fit and finish are a 10. Everything flows with this knife and that is what you are paying for. Are these knives expensive? Yes. Are they a luxury? Yes. But if you appreciate near-perfect design, form, and function in a production knife you will really appreciate these Microtech OTF blades.

Great knife but very dull

Joshua Dunn

I was very excited to get my first Microtech and DLT was a great website to browse for it. Shipping was fast and the knife came well packaged. Unfortunately, besides the very tip of the blade, it’s the dullest knife I’ve ever owned. Will not cut hair off my arm and doesn’t even feel sharp to the touch. I expected at least a sharp edge for such an expensive little knife.

These are the best otf knives. The company that cranks them out have it down to a science. I don’t plan on putting this knife throug the wringer.but it’s good to know that I can.

Okay, I Admit It...Microtech Builds A SAWHEET Knife!

I was a naysayer when it came to a genuine MT product versus an "almost the same" product from another country. I will state now, I was wrong...the difference between the real thing and a replica can't even be quantified!
First, this knife is built SOLID! I mean, when I hold it, it feels solid despite it's incredibly light weight! I'm not sure I'm sold on the distressed finish, read more but it certainly does make it easy to not worry about that first scratch, but from there in, this UTX85 is superb in all respects. I never could have appreciated how great this design is until I had one in my hands. The action is rock solid without a hint of wiggle. The blade slams out hard and locks to zero movement. The deployment button takes a little getting used to because of the spring that holds it elevated, but it works, and the bold serrations on the deployment switch are aggressive, providing a non-slip purchase. The stonewashed components lend a serious, and attractive look to the knife and the blade...one look tells it all! The blade is precise...the D/E is clean, clear, even, and precise. The markings are crisp and the finish is even and attractive. The blade is the whole point of this knife and MT did it right...it's got a thick spine unlike so many pretenders, and the tip is sharp to a needle tip without an observable defects.
In case my opinion is not obvious, this is a premium knife well worth the money asked for it. In fact, I suspect MT could easily bump prices and these knives would still sell out.
The price to get into a genuine Microtech is surprisingly affordable, and one gets the assurance of a superbly constructed knife! I highly recommend the UTX-85 as probably the ideal size for a first Microtech!

Quality issues

I bought a UTX-85, an Ultratech and a Dirac. I have had to send the UTX-85 and the Dirac back to Microtech for repair. The Dirac opened one time making a funny noise and would no longer close. The UTX-85 quickly became very difficult to open and then wouldn't extend the blade all the way. The warranty service was good. These knives were not abused and in fact, hardly used at all. read more I may have gotten a few lemons but that's a lot of money for lemons. Quality Control problems? I don't mind paying more for quality and reliability. Not too impressed.

New EDC

I was worried buying this that it would be a cool toy that ended up sitting in the drawer and not in my pocket. But this thing almost defies physics. The handle is the same length as my benchmade yet some how the blade is 1/4 longer and when you look at the blade width compared to the handle, it almost seems like it should not fit. They maxed the possibility of blade vs handle size. read more Also, i had some concerns about the safety factor, but once you hit the switch and understand the force needed to make it work, you will not worry about it getting bumped open when you put your wallet or keys in your pocket. The size of this thing is also perfect. No need for the full size unless you really need the blade length. The handle is long enough to fit your hand without worry of any fingers hanging off the end. The grip is supper aggressive when gripped with the CNC work, but supper smooth with the anodizing. It really is even better than i had hoped it could be.

Clean, snappy and badass. Right down to the package this knife is set to impress.
I had been looking at other out-the-fronts but I kept reading reviews about Microtech, that sounded like it was the best on the market.
The Microtech Utx 85 is far superior in fit and design to others I've held in my hand that are comparable in price and function. The variety of colors available read more will suit anyone's needs. and when the Bounty Hunter becomes available, I will Definitely BUY Microtech, Again!

As for this Knife, it's amazing and as expected. Microtech products are high quality and the knife is smooth, quick, sharp and works great.

Amazing EDC

I have a thing for good EDC knives and a personal requirement of non-coated simple profile blade, ~3 oz weight, solid hand feel, ambidextrous design, and ability to left pocket carry. This is a very nicely designed and well build OTF that fits all my EDC requirements.

Copper, Microtech, OTF, SFF

Gabriel D.

I've wanted a microtech for a couple of years now and when I saw this copper faced OTF I knew I had to get it. I love copper special editions from flash lights to knives now, they always leave a beautiful and rich patina. The only fault I can give this knife is that it arrived with the copper already dulled and corroded but it was nothing a little polish couldn't fix. Other than read more that the fit and finish of the knife is incredible, it's worth every dollar. I also have a benchmade OTF infidel and consider this action to be more snappy and quick to deploy but that might also have something to do with the infidel's considerable heft. Anyways, I can definitely see this becoming a personal favorite carry among many other worthy knives.

Copper OTF

Keith M.

Anytime I see a reputable brand come out with a copper model, I have to get it. I have always enjoyed the look of copper overtime. The UTX-85 while an already proven Microtech model looks great in copper. The design of the blade seems a bit murdery.... but have you ever opened packages or mail with one of these?! You'll never go back. Your manager in the office will wonder what read more the hell your doing with that "thing" in the office. You'll get to explain its simply a high performance letter opener. Once they try it, convinced they will be. Fits deep in the pocket and has decent weight. The deployment mechanism is a little giggly. I still give this blade 5 stars.

Exactly what I was looking for. Don't know if Microtech's s/n are sequential in any sense but my serial is the one in the pic, which I love because when I saw this knife, I fell in love with it. As for size, if you are unsure of how to judge it, I found it is close to my Centofante 3 in OAL and in blade length. Great blade and great customer service from Blade HQ as always.

Utx -85

Always admired Microtech, but never thought I'd buy one. Until the UTX-85. I love this knife and the layaway plan. Perfect size, mechanics unlike any other OTF, top shelf materials and manufacture. To me, this is perfection.

Love the knife. Came with p204 steel instead of elmax but thats a mistake I cant really complain about. Theres a little blade play, not much. Everything else - the housing, the action, the blade - is all perfect. All around a very nice knife.

Got mine in April 2019. 204P steel. Was wanting a different color but Black is timeless and these sell out quick so I grabbed it. Can definitely tell the difference between this and the more budget friendly OTFs. It is super slim in the pocket so its nice if you carry a big phone in your front pocket also. As I write this, I am waiting for my UTX-70 to be delivered as well so word read more of warning, these can be habit forming.

This is my first OTF knife and after a lot of research, microtech was above and beyond the best choice. The copper and black look amazing on this knife. The feel is so solid and comfortable, the action on this knife is so snappy and satisfying. Im so glad I took the time to read reviews and thats the reason Im writing my first one now. Ive already gotten so many compliments on this read more knife and Ive sent them directly to BladeHQ to check out the great selection. This will be my EDC for years to come!

This is hands down the best knife I have used. The action is incredibly reliable as well as secure. Carrying it every day in my pocket has been a breeze. it's hard to say how a knife is going to feel just by looking at the pictures. This knife has not disappointed. Perfect length, just the right size to fit in my pocket and big enough for it to be functionable. The thickness is not too bulky, and is no more than other knives I carry. The blade length to handle length is balanced well. I am a firefighter and the window punch will read more come in handy. All my coworkers now want one, so I'm glad I had my name engraved on it!

Amazing EDC knife

I love this knife to death, it fits perfectly in my hand (Large glove) and the action is absolutely amazing. The only downside i've seen so far is the pocket clip. The ramped portion will sometime snag on a coat which will cause the knife to jump out of my pocket, and the lanyard hole tends to dig into my leg if i have tighter pants on.

Outstanding!

This is my second Microtech OTF. (I also have a full sized Ultratech). The UTX-85, in my opinion, is the perfect EDC size for an OTF (unless you like the UTX-70 which might be too small but still fun nonetheless).

I have had zero issues with this knife. The trigger is solid and easy to deploy. I've never had any misfires either. I've been very I'm also a huge fan of that read more delicious Apocalyptic finish!

NOT M390...

Just received this knife. BHQ has it listed as M390 blade steel but it is CTS-204P like the rest. Without that initial disappointment I would give it 5/5.

Excellent Knife as a collectors item.

Corey H.

I purchased this knife as a collectible. The blade is extremely sharp on both edges, opens with authority, and could be viewed as intimidating. What this knife is not is a utility knife. I love the solid construction and action of Microtech knives, and this one is no different.

I like this knife. I'm left handed, and am disappointed that I can't change the clip without voiding the warranty. Love the glass breaker, but I hope I never have to use it.
The firing button is more rough than my Benchmade Phaeton, which makes my thumbs a bit more sore.
Also, the firing spring is very stiff. This is supposed to be my wife's knife, but, until the spring read more loosens up, it's going to have to be mine.

This is my third Microtech knife and my absolute favorite by far. Typical Microtech fit and finish; perfection. Typical Microtech OTF action; perfection. The smaller form factor is perfect for EDC yet you don't feel like you're compromising.

I've had this for less than a week and I'm already seeing a beautiful patina develop. Looks great, feels great with that slightly extra read more weight that the copper adds and the fun factor...I mean, come on... It's an OTF made by Microtech. Buy this thing!

I was having a hard time deciding on my next microtech and after quite a bit of searching local/ online the utx proved to be pretty hard to find (at least the one I wanted) I came across Dlt and they made my decision even harder because they had every option I was considering in stock. I picked one out and it showed up a few days later with free shipping. The knife is everything read more I hoped for. These guys have a good gig going for them over at DLT.

I know you’ve watched YouTube reviews on the utx 85. Yes it does have a tiny bit of blade wiggle. But the craftsmanship is off the charts for me. I’m an electrician who knows tools that are well made and I love this knife. I’ll be buying another one at some point. The fit and finish is ridiculous!

Stellar Knife/ OTF

Had this sucker back when I was still in the Marines but had fallen off my flak at some point during a night ops.

Great dependable knife, solid deployment and lock up. Knife was sharp and kept its edge for a couple months before it started dulling. Was cutting wires, scrapping off hardened carbon, opening/pried open ammo boxes, bags, etc. It held up!
The Tanto style gives read more the blade tip that extra strength to easily pierce through whatever you might be doing without having to worry about the actual knife itself.

Snag one up or gift it to someone, they'll appreciate it!

Perfect Size

I was hesitant to get this over the full size Ultratech, but I couldn't be more pleased. I have Medium - Large (glove size) hands and this is perfect in hand for EDC without feeling like your whipping out a sword at work to cut open a letter. It being an auto OTF with a fairly authoritative sounding action, the size helps combat the side eye from co-workers . Came shaving sharp read more to boot!

Great knife but...

The fit and finish on this knife are excellent which is typical of Microtech. The action is smooth and the blade edge is symmetrical and sharp. My only compliant is that the blade steel is listed as M390 under the product specifications but the knife I received has Elmax. Thats really my only gripe. Other than that, everything else is perfect!

Release and retract button

I want to know if this knife is easier to deploy and retract than other microtech than other models. Fact is I love your knives except they are very hard to use the thumb button. Which model is easiest to use the in and out button. Bought one that was ridiculously hard to use.

This was my first OTF knife and my first purchase from blade hq. And let me just say the knife is worth the price. The action is very strong and the knife just looks cool with the damascus steel and carbon fiber top scale. The deep carry pocket clip is a nice touch. And the best part is the knife arived at my home 1 day faster than anticipated. So all aroud very happy with the knife read more and very happy with blade hq will definitely be doing business with them again.

Super smooth

I am so very happy with this knife.
It is super smooth almost no play in the blade when out at all. Zero if compared to other OTFs.
Damascus blade looks awesome together with the carbon fiber scale top.
The blue anodized titanium hardware makes it really stand.
This is a true collectors knife but I can't help myself bringing it out of the box all the time.

Guess I got lucky found this instock for what seemed like only a day, the picture and description said elmax... I really wanted m390...pulled the trigger anyway and it came in today, and bam!! Shes m390, brand new date of 1/18. So far playing with if for a few hours Ive noticed all the jimping has been sharpened up compared to my 1/17 ultratech. I like it much bettet than whats read more on my ultratech, Size is perfect, slightly longer than a para3, Because of the glassbreaker. The action is smooth as silk, easy to deploy and retract. Came razor sharp, probably the sharpest of any of my Microtechs. Its just awesome, cant wait to put it to work. Trying hard to think of a negative and the only thing I dont like is that Microtech put one of those little restricted R with the circle by the claw on the handle... I get why they did it and see the importance... but it kinda throws the logo off to me, I like the cleaner look without that, but I wouldnt give it up because of that, and really thats grasping for the tinyest thing... the knife is a beauty so glad I was lucky enough to snag one up, if you want one watch everyday multiple times and day, and not just in new arrivals, this blade never hit the new arrivals page that I saw, I found it in the Microtech section by filtering down to utx-85, sign up for email when they come in and look all the time and you might get ahold of one... WELL WORTH THE WAIT AND THE MONEY! Couldnt be happier

Practically no blade play. Rockets out and shut. Perfect size for edc. Very durable. M390 is scary sharp. Pocket clip is perfect.

I spent about 6 months looking everywhere for this knife. I finally found one and bought it as fast as i could. first off OTF knives are just cool. All other OTF knives are imitators, microtech makes the best ones period. The lockup is amazing, and there is hardly any play in the blade. Been carrying it now for a couple weeks and the finish is holding up really well. everytime i read more use the knife people ask to play with it. A definite must for any serious knife collector.

Great Automatic!

I love this OTF! I purchased this knife recently, as they only became legal in Michigan a few months ago (November 2017). Since then, I have carried it every day. I love this knife!

The single hand operation makes using this knife so simple and easy. With automatic retraction, the knife is honestly safer as well.

I know the description says the blade steel is Elmax, read more but the knife I received is M390. I guess Microtech quietly upgraded their lineup. I can say without a doubt, this is the sharpest blade I have ever owned. Make your wishlists for when these come back in stock!

Highly highly satisfied, and highly recommended!

Another in my mountain of Microtech.

The first time I purchased an Ultratech, my mind was blown. This particular UTX-85 marks my 8th Microtech OTF purchase, and it's still as awesome as the rest. I can't get enough of how useful a dual-action OTF is, and this one fits in a nicely sized package for EDC. Definitely a solid piece of equipment.

AMAZING

Ive beaten the crap out of this knife. Ive used it for light batoning, prying, opening metal cans, stabbing and just about everything else. Not exactly what this knife was made for but good to know it can handle it. The spring did snap on me but only after about a million times of opening and closing it. I opened it up, stretched the spring and reconnected it and its been working read more ever since.

I love this knife here i also received the elmax blade steel version. I am extremely happy with this knife i own a utx70 and a ultratech as well and this is the perfect for edc the Ultratechs is nice but its a bit large to use for work and the utx70 is great knife as well but its a little small for my liking both great knives but i feel tgey have more specific time of usefulness read more where the utx85 is perfect for edc great to use at work love the new window breaker as well instead of the crazy sharp pointy older type on my ultratech. It has a great action in and out pocket clip is great just the right amount of aggressiveness and does mot feel as ilthough it will get caught on something and pulled out. Very happy with this knife and it has a great price point

Awesome!

Great knife for the price. Contour and size of the handle makes this knife a breeze to carry. It's easier to open than an ultratech but fires just as hard. It was a great knife...until I lost it in a bar fight but it saved my life so I'll definitely be buying another. Highly recommend this knife!
